A lot has changed throughout the history of the gay rights movement. In 1969, the Stonewall Riots brought light to a movement that would later establish gay pride parades and persist in the fight for same-sex marriage. But allies and LGBTQ+ community members are still fighting for progress today. What are the gay rights movement's main concerns today? And what challenges has the movement faced? Learn about the key people and events that have paved the way for the modern gay rights movement and how members from the LGBTQ+ community have joined the cause to advocate for equal rights.

Gr 3-5-Each of these timely volumes opens with an introduction outlining a well-known demonstration, from the 1969 Stonewall Inn marches to the Dakota Access Pipeline protests in 2016, before turning to history. Sidebar features include profiles of folks like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Gloria Steinem, Marsha P. Johnson, and Sacheen Littlefeather. The design in each title will appeal to younger readers; short pieces of text are often set against a color block. VERDICT While not trying to be comprehensive, each title sensitively and honestly lays out the history, background, and recent events in its respective movement. Recommended.

These succinct and dynamic books cover the causes, key players, and evolution of each titular movement throughout the years. "A Moment in the Movement" boxes focus on relevant events that had an impact and add value to the narratives. Frequent photographs help break up the texts; there's just enough historical context to keep young readers engaged and informed. Reading list, timeline. Glos., ind.
