Gr 3-6-Our impact on Earth and its climate is undeniable, and these titles help students understand the specific relationship between human behaviors and the planet. Each book focuses on a different part of the environment, from the heights of the atmosphere all the way down to the groundwater beneath our feet. Concise introductions to each of the elements lead into the myriad ways that industrialization around the globe has negatively impacted the earth, air, water, and animals. While the writing is straightforward, students may feel overwhelmed and occasionally distressed by the gravity of the data. However, hope is offered at the end of each selection in the form of suggestions on how to be a better citizen: recycling, using less water, etc. VERDICT A great series for units on climate change or spreading environmental awareness.

After outlining many of the negative effects, each book's final chapter presents practical options for readers to help. Color photographs and diagrams clearly convey the severity of the problem.
