A charming story of a wayward family heirloom, second chances, and true love. A perfect, feel-good summer read!

Jess has always loved taking chances, but after a terrible accident, she's ready for a quieter life. No more unsuitable boyfriends or unsafe adventures. More time with Tim, her dependable boyfriend who seldom surprises her.

More time with family, like her ailing grandmother, Nancy, who wants Jess to bring home the lost vintage necklace that has been in their family for generations. The delicate moonstone pendant features a flutttering butterfly, and some say it has a history of leading its wearer to her soul mate. Jess isn't sure about that, but the necklace belongs to the Taylor women, and she's determined to bring it home.

All Jess has to do is bid on it at a local auction. But when a rival bidder outplays her and sweeps the necklace off the table, Jess finds herself face-to-face with a charming straanger who has his own reasons for wanting the necklace. He might be willing to part with it, if Jess will have dinner with him...

Desperate to bring back the necklace before her grandmother's health gets worse, Jess has no choice, even if her boyfriend objects. She has to bring the necklace home, no matter what it does to her own happily ever after...

A family heirloom said to have magical powers disrupts a woman’s life in English writer Leaman’s heartfelt latest (after Second Chance Boutique). Jess Taylor, 30, receives a request from her grandmother, Nancy, to retrieve the family’s “True Love Necklace,” now on a London auction block. According to Nancy, each of the women who wore it in their family, over several generations, found their soul mate. At the auction house, Nancy, who already has a boyfriend, Tim, competes for the necklace with Guy Arlo Van der Meer. Sentimental Jess would spare no expense to fulfill her grandmother’s wishes, despite her older sister Aggie’s protests, but Guy outbids her on behalf of high-profile influencer Stella Weston. Jess pleads with him to sell it to her, and he offers to consider if she has dinner with him. After worrisome news about Nancy’s declining heart rate, Jess reluctantly accepts Guy’s invitation, and the two plot to retrieve it from Stella without upsetting her. Along the way, Tim and Aggie both resent her closeness with Guy, and as Nancy nears the end of her life, she wonders if she should give up her search. Readers will be moved from beginning to end.

Leaman (The Second Chance Boutique, 2020) pleases again with a story about vintage jewelry and family. Jess Taylor is sent on a mission by her grandmother Nancy, to find a family heirloom that was sold years before. The butterfly necklace has a long history, and some of the Taylor women believe that, when wearing it, they are able to attract their soul mate. The story opens with Jess and her sister Aggie at an auction, hoping to put in the winning bid and return the necklace to their family. Jess gets outbid right at the end by a handsome man named Guy and she decides to go plead her case to him. Guy is attractive, flirtatious and usually just the kind of man Jess would go for; but since her accident that has left her with a limp and daily pain, she is actively denouncing anything that remotely reminds her of her old life. She is trying to leave her adventurous self behind and conform to the safe, stable life her sister Aggie wants for her. As her grandmother's health deteriorates, Jess becomes desperate to get the necklace back from Guy. Through conversations with her ailing Grandmother, Jess ends up discovering the history of the Taylor women and how this necklace is more than just a piece of jewelry, but really a piece of history that has brought love into the paths of the women who wore it. Readers who are looking for a read about family, love, and being true to oneself will be delighted.
